Anatolian Clubs
Anatolian Shepherds' Dogs Worldwide, Inc.- "ASDW is a non-profit organization that is comprised of owners and breeders of Anatolian Shepherd Dogs and people who are interested in these dogs. Our club maintains a registry and database of information about Anatolian Shepherd Dog bloodlines, publishes an informative newsletter, and provides contact with and support from Anatolian Shepherd Dog owners around the world.
Our mission is to preserve the working Anatolian Shepherd guardian dog for the good of the breed and, consequently, for the good of current owners and all those owners that come after us. We are dedicated to protecting and preserving the working Anatolian and ensuring that prospective owners get accurate information about the breed. We believe that all prospective owners should be well informed and well prepared.
This is a noble cause and one that is important in our everyday lives. Anatolians provide a vital contribution to many owners who could not continue in their livelihoods without their healthy, sound, working dogs. Others of us consider our Anatolian an important member of our immediate family, one that makes our lives more meaningful and enjoyable.
Our goal is to gain the involvement of every Anatolian Shepherd Dog owner that we know of and of every person who is interested in Anatolians and may become an owner in the future.
Many dog breeds have been damaged or ruined by the activities of organizations like the AKC and other similar “show” registries and by indiscriminate “money breeders.” Things can be different for the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, because we have the capability at ASDW to reach a large percentage of Anatolian owners. This gives us a real potential to educate, effect change, exchange ideas, and make a meaningful difference. The more owners we have participating in ASDW, the more effectively we can accomplish our goals.
Our registry is the heart of ASDW. It is the total history of all Anatolians in North America. Its information is critical to owners new and old and is essential to the continued health of the breed itself. The registry allows us to provide information about a dog’s expected health, disposition, physical characteristics, and working abilities. As of January 1, 1997, our Registrar, Ruth Webb, is maintaining the only independent, accurate, honest, meaningful, complete Anatolian Shepherd Dog registry in North America." FMI: ASDW INC., P.O. United Anatolian Guardians- "UAG is about people, comaraderie, and most of all ANATOLIANS!! This is a club devoted to our
breed. We are made up of a group of people who are NOT interested in politics or a club run by
just a "special few". UAG is run by the entire membership and everyone is encouraged to participate
in educating the public about this magnificent breed of dogs." uag@webtv.net
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club of America, Inc. (ASDCA)- "AKC Recognized Parent Club
for the breed. It has maintained the official national registry for the breed since 1970. The ASDCA
furnishes to inquirers detailed information (in a question/answer format) in the Anatolian Shepherd
Dog "Information Booklet" (cost $3.00). The ASDCA also provides the breed standard, health
guide, and publishes a magazine "The Anatolian Times" that comes out three times a year. This
journal has stories about our dogs and helpful information on finding, raising, training, and living with
an Anatolian Shepherd Dog. Additionally, the ASDCA sponsors an annual ASDCA National
Specialty which features dogs from all over the country in conformation, working, and obedience
competitions." FMI: The Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club of America Inc. P.O. Box 1271, Alpine, CA 91903 FAX: (619) 445-4940.
Anatolian Shepherd Dogs International, Inc.TM-
"ASDI, Inc., was founded in 1991 with the goal of preserving the Anatolian Shepherd
Dog's working heritage and promoting sound breeding practices. Many people who
are involved with the Anatolian were attracted by the breed's intelligence, working
instincts, and temperament. While a dog with a sound structure of an identifiable
breedtype is desired, selection of breeding stock on the basis of conformation titles
alone is not. In fact, while some Anatolian Shepherd fanciers do enjoy showing their
dogs (and a dog titled in both conformation and obedience is considered best), most
Anatolians are used either for their original purpose as livestock guardians, or as
family companions.
ASDI, Inc., is known for its commitment to the education of members and others
about the Anatolian Shepherd, attention to health issues , the quality of our
newsletter, the Choban Chatter, and in working to better understand the Anatolian
Shepherd's working behavior and to ensure successful performance of our dogs in their
area of expertise. ASDI, Inc. is affiliated with the United Kennel Club, as their
emphasis on the "total dog" parallels the emphasis on soundness, working ability, and
intelligence which are the tenets upon which ASDI is founded. ASDI has generally felt
that over-popularization of the breed and recognition by the AKC is not in the best
interests of the breed. ASDI recognizes all color varieties of Anatolians, as well as
imports, and seeks to preserve a strong genetic base for the future. The club and its
over 300 members are dedicated to preserving the mental stability, soundness, and
working ability of this majestic and noble animal."
